Introduction

Year 1999 marked the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. To emphasize the significance of this event and to bring attention to the great divide between the words of the convention and the reality of millions of children around the world, Stairway chose the same time to launch an international tour with "Goldtooth, A Street Children's Musical." It was during this tour and through meeting teachers in several countries that we learned about the need for more youth appealing educational materials on the issue of street children and children's rights.

As a response to the scarcity of interesting and updated information and educational material on the issue at debate we have developed this "Teachers' Corner" in the hope that many teachers and students will benefit from the background information on Street Children in the Philippines, the short stories and the teachers' guidelines to be found here. We are very much interested to hear comments from anybody using the material.

To a certain extent, it is also possible that we can facilitate direct electronic communication between children in the North and children who used to live on the streets of Manila. For more information please contact us
