Stairway Foundation Inc. (SFI) is a learning and resource centre for children's rights and creative advocacy located in the Philippines. Our creative advocacy work is based on more than ten years of experience in working directly with street children. SFI has previously done a musical based upon the short animated film, "Goldtooth" and has completed two animated shorts, "Daughter, a Story of Incest" and "A Good Boy, A Story of Pedophilia" both on the subject of Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse. A third film, "Red Leaves," about child trafficking, is soon underway and will be released in 2007. Our passion for animation brought us together with the Danish based The Animation Workshop (TAW). TAW has, among others, worked with kids and animations for several years, and their Travelling Workshop went to the Philippines in February 2005. They worked with the children under Stairway Foundation during its annual ICARE and Week Without Walls programs, two special events that help to bridge understanding and to forge friendships between children from privileged backgrounds with marginalized children from the streets of Manila. Throughout the week-long event, the children created stories around the theme of children's rights, then developed their stories into animated shorts, which they themselves learned how to do with assistance from animators from TAW. The Travelling Workshop has during the past five years worked with more than 1,000 kids worldwide. |
