Child Sex Trafficking: Exploiters

At the center of this issue is the CHILD whose rights may be violated by the following people:

    1. SUPPLY / POINT OF ORIGIN
      • Parent /Family Members / Relatives / Guardian
      • Close relations of the child who wittingly or unwittingly connive with traffickers simply by consenting to traffic the child.

      • RECRUITER
      • The Recruiter is usually a person familiar to the victim. The Recruiter is skilled in identifying a vulnerable child, in grooming/seducing a prospect and in bargaining with the child’s parent or guardian. This person’s presence in the child’s community later serves as a constant threat to the child of harm to his or her family.

      • KIDNAPPER / ABDUCTOR
      • This may be a person or a group of persons tasked to snatch a child and hold him/her in captivity. They open the child to accept authority of other players in this operation through physical, sexual, emotional or drug abuse.

      • FIXER
      • The Fixer arranges travel documents of the victim for the traffickers.

      • TRANSPORTER / ACTUAL TRAFFICKER
      • A Trafficker is any person responsible for operating vehicles used to transport children to their trafficking destination. He/She also guards and controls the children while in transit.

    2. DEMAND / POINT OF DESTINATION
      • HARBORER
      • A Harborer is responsible for confining children in a secret holding place. Harborers function as goons, imprisoning the child and inflicting physical, emotional, sexual and/or drug abuse on the child victim. They may also be tasked with training the child to prostitute him/her self.

      • PIMP (MALE) / BROTHEL MADAM OR MAMA-SAN (FEMALE)
      • The Pimp or Madam / Mama-san solicits clients for the child and manages the child in a brothel. Some diversify into producing pornographic materials using children from their “stable”.

      • CLIENT / END ABUSER / CUSTOMER
      • The End Abuser, commonly called a pedophile, pays to have sex with the child.
Pedophiles are adults with a sexual interest in children. Some limit their sexual compulsions to fantasy, while others engage in non-contact abuse. Preferential pedophiles engage in contact abuse of prepubescent children. Situational pedophiles may not be exclusively pedophilic and may be classified as occasional or incidental / opportunistic sex offenders.

Lessors of properties used in harboring child victims, the sailors who ferry these children, and the officials who approve the entry of trafficked victims also profit from the transfer or harboring of children, even if they believe they are doing an honest job. In certain countries, they can be charged with the crime of human trafficking.

Although human trafficking is a worldwide problem and traffickers can be found anywhere in the globe, there are only few instances where they are found and arrested. As trafficking activities are usually hidden, syndicates are difficult to track down. In many instances, traffickers are able to evade the police whenever their hiding places are discovered.
