Stairway signs Memorandum of Agreement with DepEd

Access to the internet by children and young people increases exponentially– so does the need for heightened awareness and education about online safety.

Stairway Foundation has entered into a formal agreement with the Department of Education through the CyberSafe program to jointly create a Philippine web based portal for Online safety.

The lack of integrating online safety lesson in schools is an admitted gap right now within the Philippine education system. With this in mind, Stairway Foundation has entered into a formal agreement with the Department of Education through the CyberSafe program.

The CyberSafe program will be a Philippine web based portal for Online Safety, the first of its kind in the Philippines.

The portal will host online child protection materials to be developed jointly by Stairway and DepEd. The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was done last April 14, 2015 at the DepEd Central Office, with Stairway being represented by Lars Jorgensen and DepEd by Atty. Albert Muyot, the Undersecretary for Legal and Legislative affairs of DepEd. When completed, the CyberSafe portal will be opened for access to thousands of public school teachers in the Philippines in order for them to implement Online Safety lessons in the classroom.

Aside from the lesson plans, the CyberSafe portal will also host materials for children and parents, as well as other learning aids like animations, worksheets, games, as well as a link to an online reporting hotline. The MOA signing was done in conjunction with the initial writeshop of the Online Safety Modules by a pool of DepEd writers with the technical assistance from Ysrael Diloy, advocacy and Training officer of Stairway Foundation.
