There are few places one can go in the Philippines without meeting some sort of ecological disaster. This is alarming. As our world rapidly changes under the devastating effects of environmental degradation, it is imperative that environmental education becomes an integral part of the education of children and young people. Last June 28-July 3, Stairway held its annual Summer Youth for Change Camp. Students and teachers from the International School Manila, Peace Corps volunteers and Stairway kids joined together to learn about the environment surrounding Stairway Foundation. Being in close contact with the natural surroundings, not only opened the eyes of the youth to the devastating effects of environmental degradation, but also to the fact that they can make a difference in making the world a better place to live-because they are the future.
