Stairway celebrates Universal Children’s Day; Philippines, the 21st signatory of UNRC

On November 20, 1959, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child  (UNRC) and on November 20, 1989, it adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1990, Universal Children’s Day also marks the anniversary date of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of  the declaration and the convention on children’s rights  .  Along with other child care organizations, local government units, and other government agencies, Stairway commemorated the 21st anniversary of the UNCRC.  The event was attended by more than 2,500 children from around Metro Manila.  The whole-day event included interactive booths, an advocacy walk, and a concert.  Many local and foreign volunteers helped with the event.

The 21st celebration of the Children’s Rights Festival was spearheaded by Bahay Tuluyan, a child care organization in Manila.  The Philippines was the 21st signatory of the convention.  The UNCRC was ratified by the Philippine Senate on July 20, 1990.
